Stage Manager - No Plan Bee

​

We are seeking a Stage Manager for our upcoming ACE-funded project ‘No Plan Bee’

 

'No Plan Bee' is a fun, family-friendly outdoor show performed by 4 performers and a BSL interpreter that blends dance, opera, and beatboxing to spark conversations about sustainability by highlighting the plight of bees.

​

Role and Responsibilities:

The Stage Manager will be responsible for the smooth running of all technical and logistical aspects of ‘No Plan Bee’, both during rehearsals and performances. This includes:

Rehearsals:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of rehearsals, including managing props, costumes, and technical elements.

  • Providing clear and effective communication between the directors and performers.

  • Maintaining accurate and detailed stage management notes.

Performances:

  • Overseeing all aspects of the performance, including pre-show checks, running cues, and post-show procedures.

  • Managing the set-up and strike of the performance space at each outdoor location.

  • Ensuring the safety of performers and audience members.

  • Managing and maintaining all props, costumes, and technical equipment.

  • Running sound and lighting cues, where applicable, or coordinating with festival technical operators.

  • Creating and maintaining a prompt book.

  • Liaising with location venues about technical aspects where appropriate.

Logistics:

  • Coordinating get-ins and get-outs at all performance locations.

  • Managing transportation of equipment and props.

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of risk assessments and health and safety procedures.

  • Maintaining contact lists and managing communication with all involved parties.

Tech set-up: Sound equipment (PA system, monitors, radio mics) for live and recorded music. In-show monitoring and adjustment where necessary.

​

Set: Large hive structure, possibly some tables and chairs/stools, flower bomb-making materials. All structures will be designed for touring so will be lightweight and easy to pack away and store.

Monday 2nd June 10:00 - 18:00, Redcar venue (TBC)

Wednesday 4th June 10:00 - 18:00, Redcar venue (TBC)

Thursday 5th June 10:00 - 18:00, Redcar venue (TBC)

Friday 6th June 10:00 - 18:00, Redcar venue (TBC)

Saturday 7th June (2 x performances) Northumberland Square, North Shields

Saturday 23rd August, time TBC, Redcar venue (TBC) for rehearsal

Sunday 24th August (2 x performances), Between the Tides Festival, Kirkleatham Walled Gardens

Fee: £1503 (inclusive of holiday pay) plus contribution towards travel.

​

You will be required to have a full driving licence, and be confident in driving a hire van.

Chair of the Board of Directors (Voluntary)

Deadline: Friday 30th May 2025

Incorporated as a Community Interest Company in 2022, we are governed by a Board of Directors who each bring vital expertise from their chosen field. An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a passionate, dedicated person to join the Board as the Chair. To best represent the diverse population of the North East, individuals from underrepresented communities are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Society of Strays is carrying out its purposes for the benefit of the local community

  • To comply with the company's governing documents and the law

  • To bring an external perspective to planning & strategy

  • To carry out legal obligations

  • To act as a company ambassador

  • To support fundraising and contribute valuable ideas

  • To positively promote the organisation and its work at events, and to personal networks.

  • To use your influence to develop and broker new relationships, partnerships, and potential supporters of Society of Strays

 

Directors are also legally responsible for the company and must ensure that they:

  • Act in the company’s best interests

  • Manage resources responsibly

  • Act with reasonable care and skill

  • Ensure that the company is accountable and following due process.

 

You will be registered with Companies House as a Director of the Company.

​

Job Requirements

  • You will be an advocate for the arts and a believer in inclusive practices, particularly in community settings  

  • You may have some financial and charity expertise

  • You will be willing to attend at least 2 online meetings a year and commit to supporting the company in its ongoing development

  • You will be willing to attend company events, where possible

  • You will be curious and willing to check through and interrogate company documentation, such as policies and financial data

  • As the Chair, you will be confident in overseeing meetings, ensuring that agendas and the correct processes are adhered to

  • You are based in the North East and may already have some connections to other arts organisations in the area
